Syngenta joins BASF in expressing interest in Bayer businesses

Syngenta AG Chief Executive Erik Fyrwald is interested in potential assets that may be up for sale as part of the pending merger of Bayer AG and Monsanto Co. According to a Bloomberg report, Fyrwald has said that Syngenta is particularly interested in any seed assets that Bayer may have to sell. Syngenta itself is in the final stages of being acquired by National Chemical Corp. BASF SE also is considering making a bid for the assets that Bayer may sell. Bayer is expected to sell canola, cottonseed and herbicide businesses, as well as a genetically modified crop technology, to get the green light for its $66 billion combination with Monsanto. The assets could be worth as much as $2.5 billion.
